ASU to consolidate its 5 academic colleges into 3
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany State University will undergo some major changes over the next two weeks.
Starting August 1, the school will no longer have separate departments for some of its degree programs.
As of right now, Albany State University has five academic colleges. But, come August 1, those five colleges will be consolidated into three, something one teacher in the community said she hopes will benefit the students.
"I don't have a problem with any of the changes, as long as it has, I guess a positive effect of combining classes," said Lavonjia Peavy, a teacher.
According to a statement from the university, the new colleges will be the College of Health Professions, the College of Professional Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences. While Lavonjia Peavy thinks the consolidation will be beneficial, she does wish the school had reached out to the students first.
"If they did a survey detailing what activities needed to be done, or I guess you would say what they're looking for in depth, you know what they want to work out," said Peavy.
The university's statement also said the new colleges will mean the school will have to hire new interim deans as well.
The school said that search will start immediately.
WALB was not able to speak with school officials on Thursday, but they said they will answer questions on Friday.
